Book Review: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night CircusThe Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a Reveur……..following The Night Circus.

The Night Circus tells the story of a traveling circus full of wondrous and enchanting things. It’s the story of a complicated magical competition where there can be no clear winner. It is the story of lovers kept apart by the obligations of others.

Well written and thought out, The Night Circus envelops you in a world of it’s own. Playing on the senses of sight, sound and smell, you feel like you are truly there. The descriptions of the circus are incredible from the taste of the hot chocolate and cinnamon “things” to the smell of caramel and popcorn to the description of the beautiful tents.

I loved how the story is told from different timelines, gathering details from different perspectives, then coming together to complete the story.

The love story of Marco and Celia was so bittersweet. Knowing they can’t be together but not able to be apart makes their relationship so intense. I felt so frustrated for them, being used as pawns in someone else’s game and being bound not only to the game but also to others. They had many tough decisions to make and knowing how those decisions will affect others and the circus itself, makes them that much more difficult.

If you were an artist, I would think this book, with it’s details about the circus tents would serve as such inspiration.

A wonderful detailed gem of a book!
